A New Era of Elegance: Harrods Reimagines Its Iconic International Designer Galleries

The extensive renovation of the womenswear department at Harrods is entering its final stages following the debut of the first of three redesigned International Designer Rooms. Located on the store’s premier fashion floor in London, this space marks a significant step in the flagship’s ongoing modernization.

Conceived as a unified global fashion hub, the new area transitions away from a fragmented layout toward a more focused, experience-driven environment. The curated selection features a prestigious lineup of contemporary and ready-to-wear labels, including Gabriela Hearst, Khaite, Victoria Beckham, Rick Owens, Jil Sander, Acne Studios, Lemaire, Stella McCartney, and Jacquemus.

    Architectural Clarity and Elevated Design

The interior, envisioned by the experts at David Collins Studio, aims to provide an “intuitive journey” for the Harrods clientele. By emphasizing a sense of calm and structural clarity, the design encourages shoppers to browse the collections naturally, providing a sophisticated backdrop to the high-fashion offerings.

This launch acts as a cornerstone for a wider luxury realignment across the first floor. The upgrade includes significant expansions for established houses like The Row and Chloé, alongside the highly anticipated debut of Tom Ford womenswear within the store. The momentum will continue into mid-June with the arrival of dedicated boutiques for Bottega Veneta and Alaïa.

    Exclusive Launches and Strategic Reorganization

To celebrate the unveiling, a variety of prominent brands have released exclusive products specifically for these rooms. Customers can find unique pieces from labels such as Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, Rabanne, Brandon Maxwell, Zimmermann, and Camilla and Marc, further establishing the space as a primary destination for rare luxury finds.

Simon Longland, Harrods’ director of buying for fashion, describes the International Designer Rooms as a definitive world-class fashion destination. According to Longland, the rooms house a mix of hyper-modern, “of-the-moment” items and investment pieces designed to be cherished for years. He notes that the eclectic curation provides an atmosphere that is both invigorating and aspirational for the modern luxury shopper.

    Modernizing a Historic Retail Landmark

The development of the International Designer Rooms is a major phase in a multimillion-pound refurbishment program that began in 2023. The project first gained momentum with the launch of the dedicated lingerie department and continued with the expansion of the “Superbrands” section, which now features larger footprints for houses such as Schiaparelli, Dior, Celine, and Loewe.

The restructuring also addresses the architectural challenges of the historic Knightsbridge building. Longland previously noted that the floor’s layout had evolved organically over time, leading to a complex navigation experience. The current strategy reorganizes the space into logical groupings, allowing like-minded brands to “breathe” and ensuring a more seamless flow between luxury collections, including the recently opened Designer Collections Room 3 (DC3) focused on occasionwear.

Summary of the Harrods Womenswear Transformation

The unveiling of the International Designer Rooms signifies a pivotal moment in Harrods’ mission to redefine the luxury retail experience. By combining a curated selection of global brands with a more navigable, design-led floor plan, the flagship is successfully evolving its historic London space into a streamlined, high-end destination. This strategic overhaul ensures that Harrods remains at the forefront of the global fashion industry, offering a sophisticated mix of exclusive products and world-class boutiques for the discerning shopper.
