The excitement is palpable as luxury giant Gucci gets ready to unveil its Cruise 2027 show in New York. Set for May 16, this event is steeped in mystery with its secret location and marks the debut collection by new creative director Demna Gvasalia for this iconic Kering label.
“New York plays a pivotal role in Gucci’s journey: it was in this vibrant city that our Maison opened its first international boutique in 1953, setting the stage for global growth,” states a message from Gucci.
The fashion house is returning to the Big Apple for a runway show in a city that has always represented creativity and cultural dialogue—where innovation and modernity collide to inspire.
Demna joined Gucci in the summer following a strategic reshuffle of creative leaders at Kering, where Pierpaolo Piccioli now leads Balenciaga and Alessandro Michele has taken the reins at Valentino. His inaugural performance for the Florentine house debuted in Milan, featuring a see-now-buy-now format during the latest women’s fashion week.
Gucci’s most recent Cruise collection for 2026 was hosted in Florence and crafted by the in-house design team while awaiting Demna’s takeover from the outgoing Sabato De Sarno.
At the forefront of Kering’s revitalization strategy, Gucci is positioned as the flagship brand. Recently revealed insights from the new CEO, Luca de Meo, outline plans to lessen reliance on Gucci and usher in a new unit called ‘House of Dreams,’ aimed at recognizing and investing in emerging brands.
This shift indicates a thrilling time for the fashion landscape, as four of Europe’s top ten brands are set to host shows in the U.S. within the next six months.
New York, a bustling epicenter of fashion, will also host Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show on December 2, while Louis Vuitton will follow with its Cruise show on May 20. Additionally, Dior will head to Los Angeles to reveal the debut Cruise collection by Jonathan Anderson on May 13.
