BAGS OF STYLE: What treasures does Pharrell Williams carry in his chic Louis Vuitton Speedy P9 bag? Quite a few, it seems! Just a day after the Grammy Awards in February, Williams, the creative director of menswear for this luxury French brand, took to Instagram to share a peek inside his striking yellow crocodile leather Monogram bag.
Inside, he showcased his Dr. Dre Global Impact Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, along with another hidden statuette—likely for “Chains and Whips,” the popular Clipse track that won Best Rap Performance, featuring both Williams and Kendrick Lamar.
The reveal served as a sneak peek into Louis Vuitton’s inaugural dedicated advertisements for the Speedy P9, a calfskin leather rendition of the iconic Speedy bag, introduced as part of Williams’ debut Spring 2024 collection.
Entitled “In My Bag,” the campaign, captured by photographer Thomas Lagrange, portrays still life scenes featuring items from the bags of Louis Vuitton ambassadors and close friends, including Jeremy Allen White, LeBron James, Victor Wembanyama, Future, Jude Bellingham, and Jackson Wang.
Each bag tells a story, reflecting its owner’s life and career. After being named a Louis Vuitton ambassador in June, actor Jeremy Allen White shared contents of his green Speedy P9, which includes a copy of the latest newspaper, a spiral-bound notebook, a brimmed cap, a comb, a watch, a set of dice, extra socks, and a charging cord.
“Being away from home, it’s vital to have reminders of my roots and the journey ahead,” explained White, famed for his role as chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in the acclaimed comedy-drama series “The Bear.”
LeBron James, on the other hand, sports a striking yellow version of the Speedy P9. His essential items include golf balls and tees, grooming products such as shaving cream, and his iconic baseball cap.
James shared, “Blocking out the noise is essential. My mindset is my greatest tool on or off the court, and I’ve learned to carry what keeps me grounded.” This sentiment reflects the powerful influence of personal items in balancing celebrity life.
Victor Wembanyama showcases his turquoise Speedy P9 with a signature alien motif charm and fills it with quirky contents—a mini basketball, a deck of cards, a lucky spur, and wired headphones.
In contrast, Future has stuffed his blue carryall with a tennis racquet, a diamond-set gold chain, a Monogram charm necklace, some gummy candies, and a spare pair of sneakers. Jude Bellingham’s red bag is home to aviator sunglasses, a plane ticket, an official jersey, a bottle of Louis Vuitton’s Ombre Nomade fragrance, and personalized key fobs.
Meanwhile, Jackson Wang accessorized his pink Speedy P9 with playful fuzzy dice charms. Inside, one can find professional headphones, a family Polaroid, a fencing glove, music notation, a Rubik’s Cube, and even a mini sneaker, showcasing the diverse lives of its owners.
This innovative campaign launched last Friday, appearing in print globally and across Louis Vuitton’s social media platforms, illustrating the personal significance of stylish accessories for modern icons.
As the “In My Bag” campaign rolls out, it reaffirms that luxury fashion is not merely about aesthetics but also about personal narratives, providing a unique lens through which to understand contemporary style and the lives intertwined with these iconic bags.
