The Swedish luxury house Toteme has officially expanded its physical footprint with the debut of its first Miami boutique, located within the prestigious Bal Harbour Shops. This strategic opening arrives at a pivotal moment for the brand, following their recent announcement regarding a foray into menswear—encompassing ready-to-wear, footwear, and accessories—set to launch this August.
A Harmonious Blend of Swedish Design and Floridian Influence
Founders Elin Kling and Karl Lindman envision their retail locations as unique physical manifestations of the brand’s core identity. For the Miami project, the duo sought to explore the aesthetic synergy between Scandinavian minimalism and the tropical modernism native to Florida. The result is a 1,010-square-foot, single-level sanctuary that reinterprets the local environment through a sophisticated northern lens.
To achieve this, Toteme collaborated with their long-term architectural partners, the Stockholm-based firm Halleroed. The space is characterized by an abundance of natural light and a careful selection of materials that bridge the gap between two distinct geographic sensibilities.
Interior Artistry and Materiality
The boutique’s front room serves as a centerpiece of design heritage, featuring low-profile Liljevalchs sofas designed by Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn. These pieces are custom-upholstered in the iconic “Celotocaulis” print, a 1930s motif defined by oversized floral patterns and winding stems. Further emphasizing the botanical theme, the walls are decorated with archival 18th-century engravings, elegantly encased in frames made from hand-woven banana leaves.
Throughout the store, a curated mix of textures creates a tactile shopping experience. Natural elements like woven rattan shelving and leather-clad tables are juxtaposed with heritage-inspired wardrobe trunk displays. These warm components are balanced by the cool precision of monochrome surfaces, Pukeberg glass pendant lighting, and mirror-polished stainless steel fixtures.
The Current Collection and Future Growth
Upon its debut, the Miami location is showcasing Toteme’s Pre-fall 2026 collection. The assortment includes a full range of women’s ready-to-wear, alongside handbags, footwear, jewelry, and swimwear. While the brand has not launched with Miami-exclusive products, the founders have suggested that location-specific pieces are a possibility for future seasons.
Regarding the brand’s upcoming expansion into menswear, the collection will initially have a focused retail presence in the United States. While the Miami boutique focuses on the women’s line, the men’s category is slated for availability at Toteme’s established locations in New York (Mercer Street and Madison Avenue) and California (Melrose and South Coast Plaza).
Summary of Toteme’s New Retail Chapter
Toteme’s arrival at Bal Harbour Shops represents more than just a new store; it is a calculated effort to engage with cities that possess a strong visual and cultural identity. By integrating local textures with rigorous Swedish architectural standards, the brand continues to refine its global retail narrative. This expansion underscores Toteme’s commitment to providing a curated, immersive environment that reflects its evolution from a niche label into a comprehensive luxury lifestyle brand.
