This prestigious award, known for its generous €300,000 first prize, has now reached its 12th year.
“Thank you to the jury, to Delphine Arnault, to LVMH and to everyone… I am very honored,” Otsuki said softly into the microphone, his humility resonating with the audience.
In a pre-award video, Otsuki shared his journey: “I launched Soshiotsuki in 2015, blending Japanese tradition with modern craftsmanship. Interpreting the DNA of Japanese heritage from a unique perspective. Combining precision with emotion to create modern silhouettes.”
The jury, a who’s who of LVMH designers including Phoebe Philo, Pharrell Williams, and Sarah Burton, awarded two additional honors.
The Karl Lagerfeld Prize went to Steve O Smith, a UK-born artist renowned for transforming his intricate ink sketches into flowing, graphic dresses, earning him €150,000.
On another front, Torishéju Dumi claimed the Savoir-Faire Prize for his bold collections that redefine both women’s and men’s fashion. This award celebrates exceptional craftsmanship and innovation in sustainable fashion.
Notable past finalists like Jacquemus and Demna, along with Rachel Scott of Diotima, continue to inspire the industry with their creativity.
The winner emerged from a fiercely competitive pool of eight finalists selected from 20 semi-finalists who showcased their work during the LVMH Young Fashion Creators Award on March 5 and 6 in Paris.
An initial jury of about 80 fashion insiders, including editors and models, narrowed the candidates to eight.
The remaining finalists featured French designer Alain Paul, known for his sculptural collections; All-In, the duo of Benjamin Barron and Bror August Vestbø, who created whimsical pieces like a gown artfully paired with oversized pearl accessories;
Zomer’s Danial Aitouganov, who has captivated audiences with his women’s collections in Paris; Italian draper Francesco Murano, whose skills are commendable; and Tolu Coker from London, who stunningly blends African motifs with sophisticated tailoring.
